Dr. Cedric D. Alford.
Founder & CEO, XylaWorks.
Career development has a structural problem. If you’ve ever been passed over without understanding why — you’ve felt it. XylaWorks was built to close that gap.
A Conviction, Not a Concept.
For most of his career, Dr. Cedric D. Alford watched qualified professionals get reduced to keywords — at Microsoft, at Pegasystems, in graduate classrooms, and in hundreds of advisory conversations with professionals who had the capability but not the positioning to match it. The pattern was consistent. The gap was structural. And no one had built the infrastructure to close it at scale.
XylaWorks began as a question: what happens after the resume? The answer took shape through doctoral research on the structural barriers that prevent qualified professionals from being accurately evaluated — research that produced both a documented problem and a methodology for addressing it.
That methodology became the foundation. A development team built the platform infrastructure. AI extended the methodology's reach across every professional who needs it. The result is an institution — not an individual's practice — designed to operate and scale independently of any single person, including its founder.
Every professional deserves the career intelligence that has always been reserved for the few.
The Research
A phenomenological study of the structural barriers that prevent qualified professionals from being accurately evaluated. The problem XylaWorks was built to address — documented before the first line of platform code was written.
The Platform
Built by a team of developers, product managers, and strategists on enterprise infrastructure — designed to deliver research-grounded career intelligence at a scale and depth no individual advisor could match, to every professional who needs it.
What Shaped How the Platform Was Built
Three bodies of experience — each leaving a direct imprint on the platform's design, methodology, and mission.
Seeing How Talent Decisions Are Actually Made
Senior leadership roles at Microsoft and Pegasystems — advising C-level executives on go-to-market strategy, partner ecosystems, and scaling organizational capability. That inside view became the empirical foundation the XylaWorks assessment was built to address. More than 30 years of professional experience — beginning in 1994 — across enterprise strategy, organizational leadership, and market development.
Developing Leaders While Staying Current
Currently on faculty at Colorado State University Global Campus (Organizational Leadership) and Southern New Hampshire University (MBA Program) — working directly with professionals navigating career development, leadership transitions, and competitive positioning. Previously served as Marketing Faculty Lead at the Jack Welch Management Institute. The classroom keeps the platform honest about what today's professionals actually need.
Documenting the Problem Before Building the Solution
Doctoral dissertation: A Phenomenological Study of Women in Information Technology Leadership Positions — a ground-level examination of how structural barriers prevent qualified professionals from being accurately evaluated. That research is the direct origin of the XylaWorks framework. The civic mission continues through The ALIGN Organization (501c3), advancing ethical leadership and equity for women and girls across sectors.
Career strategy has always existed.
Access to it has not.
Executives transition with coaches, outplacement firms, and curated introductions. Everyone else gets a template. That gap is not a minor inconvenience — it compounds over time, and it falls hardest on the professionals who can least afford it.
XylaWorks was built to close that gap. Not as a consulting practice. Not as a resume service. As a platform — designed to deliver the same depth of career intelligence to every professional who needs it, and to every organization that serves them.
The organizations where this methodology was developed don't depend on individuals to deliver consistent quality at scale. They build systems. XylaWorks was designed the same way — so that what the platform delivers is always bigger than what any one person could provide, and available to every professional who deserves it.
Whether a candidate is navigating a layoff, a student is entering a competitive market for the first time, or an organization is managing a workforce transition with integrity — the platform is built to meet each of them where they are.
